Let Wellpoint’s CEO know that raising premiums for health care in this financial climate is unacceptable. Please sign the petition at the bottom of the post. There is also a link to “like” the page on facebook. Even if you’re not a customer of Wellpoint please pass this information to your friends and family, there are 34 million Wellpoint customers, let’s reach all of them. Thanks!

    Mission:
This page was created for Wellpoint customers and fellow Americans to unite against the behemoth corporation and their proposal to raise monthly premiums throughout the United States.

I find it disingenuous that Wellpoint cites rising costs of health care for the proposed increase of monthly premiums. It is not the cost of health care that drives premiums up for hard working Americans, it is Wellpoint’s greed. Wellpoint profited $4.7 billion last year and in the first quarter of 2010 Wellpoint’s profits rose 51%. Wellpoint’s incessant drive for profits is the reason for the unjust rate increases.

In California, Anthem a subsidiary of Wellpoint, has withdrawn their proposed increase of rates, (some up to 39%) and plans to refile new rates at a later date. Anthem withdrew their claim largely to public outcry from consumers, regulators and elected officials including President Obama. This is a welcome yet short reprieve for consumers in California. It is also the first step in standing up to Wellpoint. Keep the pressure on Wellpoint to stop raising monthly premiums. 11 other states face increases in rates as well. http://www.americanprogressaction.org/issues/2010/02/wellpoint.html

Please sign the attached petition to Wellpoint’s CEO, Angela Braley demanding that Wellpoint stop raising premiums. If you are not a customer of Wellpoint, you can still help by suggesting this page to as many people you know. Thanks for getting the word out!

Okay I know I shouldn’t gloat because technically it’s a bad thing to do and every time I do gloat, it always comes back to bite me in the ass. However, when I read Anthem Blue Cross withdraws request for rate hikes, I couldn’t help but rejoice and laugh out loud.

“California health insurer Anthem Blue Cross canceled rate hikes of as much as 39% for thousands of California policyholders Thursday after state regulators said the plan was “seriously flawed.”

I tried to stop gloating but couldn’t when I read Wellpoint’s stock fell by 9% once they withdrew their rate increase. Healthcare Stocks Slide After Wellpoint Cancels Rate Increase

“People are thinking, if this is happening in California, it might start happening in other states,” said Steven Shubitz, a healthcare analyst with Edward Jones in St. Louis. “If that happens, profit growth could be seriously impacted.”

Obviously investors are worried about the contagious affect of Anthem’s withdrawal, and they should be. Anthem’s withdrawal is monumental, it clearly demonstrates what can be accomplished when people unite and stand up for themselves. The bully backs off.

Round Two, for comprehensive health care has begun.

Anthem/Wellpoint will not let this set back deter them from trying to draw as much money from the American public as they possibly can. They will be back with more rate increases.

The pressure must be kept on Anthem and it’s parent company Wellpoint. Which is why I started a petition targeting the CEO of Wellpoint demanding that they do not raise premiums.

Please send a message to Wellpoint by signing the petition. Wellpoint Customers Against Premium Hikes. If you are not a Wellpoint customer, please forward this petition. Wellpoint has 34 million customers, it’s time for this health care corporation to hear from everyone one of them.

    Thanks for reading.
