Ok so the following post I did not write, but copied from the group Health Care For America Now. If you can attend please do so, this is a great organization committed to informing the American public how insurance companies are getting away with murder. Ok that may have sounded a little on the dramatic side, but you know what I mean.
Last week, all over the country, people like you said Big Insurance: Sick of It at events that called on insurance companies to stop mistreating Americans and standing in the way of health care reform.
On Tuesday, we are going to escalate our actions against Anthem Blue Cross and other insurance companies that are denying Americans both good health care and real reform that includes a public health insurance plan.
Join us as we declare Anthem Blue Cross a crime scene!
It’s no secret that WellPoint Inc. and its California subsidiary, Anthem Blue Cross, care more about widening their profit margins than meeting the needs of their patients. For too long now, these private insurance companies and their executives have been lining their pockets (at exceeding rates) while health premiums continue to rise three times faster than our wages! Even worse – WellPoint and its subsidiary have also been engaged in an aggressive campaign effort to derail national health reform
BIG INSURANCE CRIMES:
It’s a crime that insurance companies
- Rack up profits by denying patients treatment even when doctors recommend it!
- Discriminate against people with pre-existing conditions!
- Keep premiums and out of pocket costs high so that care is unaffordable even for those who have insurance!
- Rescind coverage for patients when they need it most – when they become sick!
It’s a crime that 64% of all bankruptcies are caused by medical debt.
It’s a crime that every 12 minutes someone dies because they can’t afford the escalating cost of health insurance.
That’s why on Tuesday October 6th we’re rallying in support for real national health reform and exposing those guilty of lining their pockets while the people of California suffer. You already know that 7 million of our fellow citizens across this state currently lack health insurance – and millions upon millions more are plagued with inadequate health insurance.
Enough is enough! It’s time to hold insurance companies accountable for their crimes.
