I Stand With Dawn Smith
October 18, 2009admin 1 Comment »On October 5th, I received an email from MoveOn.Org informing me of Dawn Smith’s story. In 2005, Dawn was diagnosed with a brain tumor—then in 2007, a second one. After a battery of tests, three doctors from three leading health care systems in the metro Atlanta area agreed that her only chance for a cure was to see a specialist at Cleveland Clinic or Washington University’s Center for Advanced Medicine. Yet for two whole years, CIGNA has refused the care that she needs.
Wow CIGNA denying another customer health care, how unlike them. Please insert sarcasm and if you’re wondering about my comment, you can check out an interview with Wendell Potter and Bill Moyers in an earlier post “Who’s Wendell Potter” (Potter discussed Natalie Sarkisyan, who died because CIGNA denied her a liver transplant)
Dawn Smith made a decision to travel to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, headquarters of CIGNA, and confront the CEO of CIGNA, Edward Hanway. Dawn plans to ask him to explain why CIGNA is denying her health care. I support Dawn and her demands that CIGNA must provide the treatment she needs and stop rejecting care for all the others who are suffering. I signed the petition that MoveOn.Org provided Stand With Dawn Smith.
If you would like to follow Dawn’s journey in her attempt to meet with Edward Hanway check out her blog It Could Happen To Anyone
I feel the title of Dawn’s blog says it all because It Could Happen To Anyone. I think so many Americans, myself included have stopped thinking “what if” my insurance company denies me the coverage I need; to “when” will my health insurance deny me the coverage I need?
I hope many more people will sign the petition for Dawn in her quest for answers about her mismanaged and life threatening “health care”. Dawn is a brave individual who doesn’t deserve the fight she’s in with her insurance company, she deserves the medical care her doctors have prescribed for her. Hopefully Dawn will have her questions answered by Edward Hanway, but more importantly, Dawn will get the medical treatment she needs and finally be on her journey towards that of a healthy individual.
Thanks for reading.
